This Week 02
Sony's Founder Akio Morita, Advanced Prototyping with Origami Studio, a better deodorant, How to Write with ChatGPT
Books I’m reading
This book isn’t in print anymore so it ran me $40 bucks. It’s an autobiography by the cofounder of Sony, Akio Morita. I started it today and I can already tell I’ll like it. I enjoy anything written by someone who’s built something great, especially with an emphasis on craft like Sony has.
I’ll write more about it as Akio teaches me what he knew.
Tools I’m learning
This week I started to learn the fundamentals of Origami Studio, an advanced prototyping tool created by team at Meta. I tried playing with it a year ago, but found it unintuitive. But now I don’t think that bad. Turns out I just needed to follow a few tutorials.
Figma’s Smart Animate can only get you so far. Trust me, I’ve tried pushing it to its limits many times. A sea of possibilities has opened up for me now that I can see what Origami can do, like access your iPhone’s gyroscope, for example.
If you’re interested in learning it, you have to build something with it right away to see its utility. Start with this tutorial by Wayne Sang. Then continue with that playlist. It’s straight and to the point:
Soon enough you’ll get to a point where you can create stuff like this.
Things I’m buying
In keeping with the interests in fragrances, I decided to try an aluminum free, Bergamot-scented, deodorant by Salt and Stone. A friend recommended this brand to me and I’m quite happy with it. It’s no antiperspirant, and I have quite the garden hoses under my arms, so we’ll see how long I stick with it. After 10 minutes on the skin, it starts to smell like Le Labo’s Bergamote 22, which makes me associate it with a really premium scent. Pick it up for $20: Salt and Stone, Bergamot and Hinoki.
